NEWINGTON SKI CLUB MINUTES
September 21, 2017
Indian Hill Country Club
Meeting was called to order by President Jon Putnam at 7:35pm.
Jon welcomed new members. Meetings for 20017-2018 Season will be held the 1st and 3rd Thursday at our new meeting place- Indian Hill Country Club. Please feel free to come early for food/drinks. Jon introduced the Officers for this year.
Secretary’s Report: Last meetings minutes were accepted.
Membership: Marilyn Pearson asked members to sign up early to get their stickers to be ready to ski. As of Sept. 20, there are 40 members. Membership includes discounts to ski areas with Bulk Tickets and Awareness days. You will need your membership card with an updated sticker and drivers license to participate and to follow the bulk ticket rules.
Jon Putnam is working on a PDF membership roster
Bulk Tickets: Orders and payment are due 10/1/17.Forms are on the website, you will need a check for each mountain payable to NSC. See forms as to where to send the orders. See Coordinators if you turned in tickets last year for amount credited. Smugglers and Bolton are no longer doing bulk tickets. Mt Snow offers group rates every day to CSC members, go to group sales window to purchase. If you had returns and have not joined the club you will not be able to get the credit return unless you join NSC. George Lape and Jon Putnam will do the paperwork and coordinate the orders for the club purchase.
Open House: Will be here at Indian Hill Country Club on November 30, 2017.Ted Rogala and Marilyn Pearson are working out the details on the Open House Meeting. It will be simplified from the previous open houses..
Manchester Road Race: Rusty Cushman reported members do the race and meet afterwards at the finish line to tailgate/socialize with Mountain Laurel Ski Club.
Snow Ball: November 18, 2017, Hartford/Windsor Marriott. See Ambassador Mike Brown for tickets. $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Eight to the Bar is the band. Mike is working on getting raffle prizes, has quite a few so far. If anyone has a connection for a prize, see Mike and he will contact the person. We are sharing the Hospitality Suite with CAST Ski club this year. There is a block of rooms for CSC to reserve for $99.
On Snow: March 2-4th 2018 at Okemo. Ron Kapraszewski is working on lodging for those that need it. We won last year 1. We do not need to pay Ski Council Dues for the Club, 2. We are running the racing again. Looks like Bulk tickets can be used. On Snow pricing is $122 for 2 day Saturday/Sunday.
Warren Miller Film: November 3, 2017. See Jon Putnam if interested in going for group tickets.
Ski and Travel Show: October 21, 2017.Ct Convention Center. Jon put out free tickets on the tables, parking is $3,00.
Pete Noyes Memorial Hike: November 11, 2017. Hike and tailgate.
Christmas Party: December 9,2017. Indian Hill Country Club. Upstairs in the banquet room. Will be $30-$35.
Racing: ASRA founder retired, so no more ASRA. Instead -Mid Atlantic Masters Association USSA Sponsored for those who would like to race. No race camp set up yet. The Masters Nationals will be at Okemo this year.
Club Day will be at Okemo this year on the Nastar course. Date-TBD.
Soup, Stew and Chili Night: TBD at Indian Hill CC. Will need to figure out how to do the event.
Senior Games: February 27,2018 at Sundown.
Big Sky Trip: March 6-13, 2018.See John Hunter. Have 17 openings available. $1750. Should get the Max Pass if going. if non-members of NSC want to go, they will need to join the club.
New Business:
9/30/17 East Hartford Knights of Columbus-to benefit CCMC. ,Rides, food,band.
9/23/17-Newington Fire Dept 100th Anniv. Parade Free. Parade starts at 4:30. Beer Garden and band at -Mill Pond.
Rail Trail opening in Southington today Hart St to Lazy Lane.
Membership dues Structure: Overall Membership keeps getting smaller. Constitution needs to be updated. This will be addressed this year.
Website is updated looks great. Paul Yuskales has been working on it.
Summer Golf Tournament-Andrea Albert and Jon Putnam won. Date all set for next year- August 12, 2018.
If you visit a ski/sport shop and mention you are a member of the NSC for possible discount.
50/50 raffle- George Lape won $16.
