NEWINGTON SKI CLUB MINUTES
October 4, 2018
Indian Hill Country Club
Meeting called to order by Ted Rogala at 7:30 at Indian Hill Grille Room. Vice President and Secretary were not present so we did not have a secretary’s report from the kick off meeting on September 20, 2018.
Membership: report provided by Jack Fede: 130 members signed up so far, new members, college students, families, single and retired members. We are ahead of last year’s memberships for the same time period.
Treasurer’s report: given by Carol Sweeney, accepted.
Bulk Tickets: Pam Bateman reported that the deadlilne was 10/1. Orders were about 30% less than last year. This is probably due to the IKON and Epic Pass options and other deals. We have a password for ordering Mt Snow tickets online. No new Mt. Snow tickets are available due to their new purchasing plan. The club voted to purchase 10 Okemo tickets to use for Club Day or sell to members (from last year’s returns)
CSC Report: Joe Machowski talked about council trips for various clubs. The CSC is sponsoring a trip to Madonna Di Campiglio, Italy March 15-23, 2019. Cost is $1660. Inclusive of airfare, some meals, transfers. More information is available on the CSC web site. Council Ski Days are not available yet.
Upcoming events: Ski swap at Suburban Sports, 10/5-9; Sundown Ski Swap 11/2-4; Boston Ski Expo 11/8-11; Warren Miller film at the Bushnell 11/17. This conflicts with the Snow Ball, but other sites in CT are also hosting the film on other dates. More to come. Manchester Road Race 11/22, tailgating with Mt. Laurel, contact Rusty Cushman for more information.
Open House: November 18th, Marilyn Pearson and Mike Isko are coordinating and will send requests for participation to ski shops and mountains. Anyone with contacts is asked to help as well. Joe Machowski will do decorations.
Snow Ball: November 17. Mike Brown is our Ambassador, but he is traveling extensively. Jon Putnam will contact him to assist and find out what needs to be done, tickets, etc.
Monday Night Racing: kick off sign up with free pizza at Mt. Southington on 12/17, time TBA. Racing begins on 1/7/19. New this year is the option to race on a separate NASTAR course after CSC races. Add an additional $9 for this. CSC/CISC Race & Ticket = $31; CSC/CISC Race Ticket with NASTAR = $40
Club Day: John Hunter is planning the event at Okemo. More to come
Soup, Stew, Chili night on 2/7/19 at Indian Hill.
On-Snow: 3/1-3/19: Hotel and other information coming soon.
Sugarloaf Trip: 3/10-15/19 John Hunter estimates lodging will cost $300, lift tickets depend on whether you have an IKON pass, age, etc. John needs a deposit of $300 now to reserve condos and confirm trip members. In the past he has had people sign up but not confirm or cancel until a late date. He needs a commitment with deposit, contact him for more information.
Holiday Party: January 17 at IHCC
New Business: Jon Putnam would like any information, articles, business sent to him so that he can send an email blast to the club.
